New geothermal lagoon to open in Iceland

Posted on 17 June 2020 By Anita Froneman

Iceland is known for its soothing hot springs and now the Nordic country is planning to open a new man-made geothermal lagoon called Sky Lagoon.

Geothermal energy is the heat that emits from the earth’s sub-surface. Situated in Kársnes Harbour, in the city of Kópavogur, Sky Lagoon will feature a 70m infinity edge, blending it into the ocean, according to Lonely Planet.

International travel is still off the table for the foreseeable future, but those who like to plan long in advance should add Iceland to the itinerary. The lagoon will open in the spring of 2021.
