The authorities in Bali, Indonesia are getting fed-up with non-compliant tourists.
Anyone seen in public not wearing a mask must either pay a fine of 10,000 Indonesian Rupees (about R10), or will be forced to perform 50 push-ups. Anyone wearing a mask incorrectly will owe 15 push-ups, according to Matador Network.
Officer Gusti Agung Ketut Suryanegara told AFP: ‘Respect for the wearing of a mask by foreign tourists is very low. 90 percent of offenders are tourists. First they say they are not aware of this regulation. Then they say they forgot it, their mask was wet or damaged.’
Bali’s borders closed in April 2020, except for permanent residents being repatriated, but many tourists are still in the country either having extended their stays or being unable to return to their home country in time.
