Old Mac Daddy brings airstream trailer accommodation to the countryside

Posted on 8 September 2015 By David Henning

Old Mac Daddy is another accommodation establishment in the Daddy’s World stable. Always in pursuit of the humorous, the unusual, the inspiring and the easy-going, Old Mac Daddy is the countryside extension of the creative life that Daddy’s World provides in the city.

Old Mac Daddy began as a search for a getaway that would give the Airstreams a nostalgic 50’s caravan holiday feel, and it needed to happen somewhere really beautiful. The Elgin Valley was an ideal site for this project to begin unfolding.

Way back in 2010, we put out a call to the creative community to develop ideas for the trailers. Concept, theme, attention to detail and command of materials were essential elements in the selection process and a public viewing day helped Old Mac Daddy select the final themes for the trailers that we are proud to host you in today.

Apart from beautiful accommodations, we also offer a charming wedding venue. If you dream of a bespoke wedding scene, you will love Old Mac Daddy’s location set amongst apple orchards and the pine-scented forests of the Elgin Valley. A beautiful stretch of lawn beside the lake is perfect for a ceremony, and our Barn venue is a magnificent indoor-outdoor space for your reception or party.

Relaxed, unfussy and all about friends, Old Mac Daddy can host a wedding or gathering for 44 overnight guests with a further 18 overnight patrons on day beds within certain trailers. For the ceremony or party, our restaurant and barn can host up to 100 seated guests.

Set amongst the fruitful farms, Old Mac Daddy offers open spaces, mountain paths, a lakeside beach and plenty of outdoor activities for the whole family. In the chilly months, enjoy sitting by the fire, reading books, playing board games and sipping on a glass of wine from our favourite local cultivars.

Just an hour from Cape Town, the drive is well worth a mention too. The N2 snakes up Sir Lowry’s Pass where – on a clear day – you can enjoy spectacular views over False Bay and its surrounds. Once on the other side of the pass, you descend into the Elgin Valley, over the mountain – hence the term Overberg. It is here you’ll find your hidden piece of paradise that you can call home; Old Mac Daddy!
