Amid growing fears and uncertainty surrounding widespread immigration tensions, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA has taken proactive measures to safeguard pets as many residents prepare to vacate their homes, Cape {town} Etc reports.

On Sunday, SPCA Inspectors were deployed across various locations in Cape Town, collaborating closely with the City of Cape Town and other agencies to ensure that no animal is abandoned or left behind during this tumultuous period.
As activist groups gear up for a potential national shutdown on 30 June, many individuals are experiencing acute anxiety, prompting them to leave their residences hastily.
In response to this climate of fear, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA has urged those gathering at assembly points to communicate with inspectors, confirming that pets are accounted for before they depart.
The organisation stated, ‘Our Inspectors are engaging with those gathered… to establish whether anyone is leaving without having had the time to make arrangements for an animal.’
They further reassured that where necessary, ‘the SPCA will arrange for the animal to be admitted into our care on their behalf,’
In these moments of chaos, animals can often become the “silent casualties,” vulnerable to neglect as human crises unfold around them. The SPCA’s timely intervention highlights their commitment to animal welfare, ensuring that no creature suffers due to the human plight. “If you know of an animal left behind because someone has left the country in a hurry, please contact the Cape of Good Hope SPCA Inspectorate,” they implored.
They are available for assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week, urging the public to reach out for help.
