South African travel influencers to be inspired by

Posted on 3 August 2023 By Jordyn Johnson

Travel influencers can often have you questioning your life choices and feeling a little envious of these people who always seem to be sipping bubbly in a five-star game lodge.

However, set aside your terrible game of comparison and allow these creators to inspire you. Many of them showcase awesome hikes, adorable coffee shops, and breathtaking scenery that is accessible and doable for most of us to try. They also offer a look into unique and beautiful accommodations that you would otherwise never know about.

Mariska is a South African travel blogger and content creator who loves being outdoors. Coming from Pretoria, she often posts things to do in and around her city and tries to visit as many spots as her followers suggest to her. Scattered between her Gauteng content are reels and carousels of her travels throughout the rest of the country.

This aesthetically pleasing Instagram page has been curated by a couple who are very real about the challenges of chasing their dreams. They are a ‘plant-powered couple’ who showcase excellent restaurants, hidden waterfalls, and unique spots in the Western Cape.

Their content is simple and elegant, and you will feel inspired to explore more of the Western Cape. However, they never take themselves too seriously and often share behind-the-scenes that make them very entertaining to follow.

Phumi Mbatha describes herself as an eternal optimist who shares herself ‘chasing pockets of joy’ throughout KwaZulu Natal. She loves beaches, mountains, waterfalls, and nature in general, and her reels and carousels will inspire you to get outside more and explore.

Most of Angela’s content is based in Mpumalanga and shows off the waterfalls and incredible mountain views that she visits around the province. Her drone shots are slow panoramic videos that take your breath away and offer scenery of South Africa that you’ve probably never seen before.

Hiking and sunsets would be the two words that describe Alani’s travel account.

She grew up between KwaZulu Natal and Johannesburg, so she’s a sucker for road trips, and her content will inspire you to pack the car and chase sunsets. She shares hiking trails, comfortable accommodations, and awesome things to do in and around Johannesburg and other parts of the country.

This couple decided to give up their rental agreement, sell their furniture (thank you Facebook marketplace), and take what they could on a road trip through South Africa. They both work remotely and live in month-long Airbnbs, trying to experience as much of their country as they can. They love showing off hiking spots, coffee shops, and unique things in each area they visit.
