A Christmas rescue: Nala the dog saved from a snowy mountain in the US

Posted on 30 December 2022 By Jordyn Johnson

A dog was rescued on Christmas Day after being separated from her owner during a mountain hike the day before near Waterfall Canyon in the United States.

Nala and her owner, a local man, went for a hike on Christmas Eve, 24 December, when they became separated. The owner searched for his dog but could not find her before nightfall.

The following morning, he returned to the mountain to look for Nala again. When his family hadn’t heard from him by 1 pm they notified authorities that he was missing. Out of cell service, the man had finally located Nala but could not reach her. The dog was above a waterfall and the terrain was icy and steep.

He was eventually able to call one of his family members and share his location. Weber County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team ‘spotted Nala cliffed out above the waterfall and kept eyes on her until (their) team reached her.’ They were able to convince her to trust them and hike down the mountain, where she was reunited with her owner. Although cold and with some minor injuries, the rescue team says that ‘she is one tough puppy.’
