Police arrested eight men who were caught crawling through a fire hydrant tunnel at OR Tambo International Airport last week.

Minister of Home Affairs, Aaron Motsoaledi, said that four of the men are Bangladeshi nationals and four are Pakistani, according to IOL.

The men arrived from a Qatar Airways flight from Doha and were meant to transit through South Africa en route to other countries, but instead try to get into South Africa illegally.

A video was shared on Twitter:

‘While we are grateful that the arrest of these illegal immigrants, which is in line with our zero-tolerance approach to the contravention of South Africa’s immigration laws at all points of entry, we must also make sure that this incident and any potential of its reoccurrence,’ Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula said on Twitter.

South Africa does not offer transit visas, but the Department of Home Affairs said it plans on implementing them to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the country.
