Porcupine and leopard standoff in Kruger National Park

A recent visitor to Kruger National Park was lucky enough to catch a standoff between a porcupine and a leopard on the road.

Leopards have been known to hunt porcupines, but it is usually a painful affair with the porcupine’s quills stuck in their paws or faces. It often doesn’t take long for a leopard to figure out the porcupine’s defences and if the leopard can turn the leopard over, they can overpower it.

In this sighting, however, the porcupine seems to use its defence well, instinctively presenting its tail quills to the leopard. Watch the video below.
