The Cessna 175 landed in an open field opposite Atlantic Beach Estate along Otto du Plessis Drive. Emergency services and local security personnel responded to the scene.
According to Nova News, Rihan Kleyn of Atlantic Aerodrome confirmed that both the pilot and passenger were safe after the landing. One occupant had sustained a sprained finger, which was being attended to by the Atlantic Beach security team.
Propeller damage reported after landing
The aircraft’s propeller had reportedly stopped turning before the plane touched down. Following the landing, the propeller was found bent backwards.
Kleyn said the damage was consistent with the propeller having stopped while the aircraft was still in the air. However, the precise circumstances that led to the forced landing have not yet been established.
Despite the incident, both occupants were able to walk away from the aircraft.
Aircraft operated by flight school
The aircraft, registered as ZS-CMS, belongs to 4 Aviators, a flight school based at Cape Winelands Airport, with an additional base at Cape Town International Airport.
Further information about what prompted the forced landing had not been confirmed at the time of reporting.
