Eastern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said police were called to Orient Beach at around 7am. On arrival, officers found the woman’s body with open wounds. Police have opened an inquest at KuGompo SAPS, and her identity is being withheld until her next of kin have been notified.

Orient and Eastern beaches closed

Following the incident, the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality closed Orient Beach and Eastern Beach until further notice.

The woman reportedly sustained severe injuries to her right arm and leg. Lifeguards brought her ashore, where paramedics and members of the public attempted to provide emergency assistance. However, she died at the scene.

Authorities have also issued warnings at surrounding beaches, urging beachgoers to remain vigilant and follow all safety instructions.

The municipality has instructed the public to stay out of the water at the affected beaches and to exercise extreme caution along the coastline.

Visitors planning a trip to KuGompo City and its beaches should check for official municipal updates before heading to the coast, as closures and safety advisories may change.
