Beached striped dolphin rescued in Eastern Cape

Posted on 3 June 2022 By Ilhaam Hoosain

A striped dolphin was found beached on Keurbooms Beach in the Eastern Cape’s Dune Park. The National Sea Rescue Institue (NSRI) was alerted and efforts to swim the mammal back out to sea commenced.

However the sea was rough and attempts were postponed, and the dolphin was transported to the NSRI’s base.

Later, NSRI Plettenberg Bay transported the dolphin about two nautical miles off-shore. Appearing strong and healthy the dolphin swam off happily. The shoreline will be monitored for any other cases.

The Southern Cape Marine Animal Stranding Network members and the Eastern Cape Marine Animal Stranding Network member were all alerted to the situation.
