Blue Train derailed at Union Station in Germiston, Gauteng

Reports surfaced on Sunday about one of the famous Blue Trains derailing overnight. Thankfully, the train was empty.

19 empty coaches of the train derailed at Union Station in Germiston. This situation is currently being investigated by Transnet Freight Rail (TFR).

Transnet stated: ‘This was a staged (unmanned) train with no passengers on board. No injuries were reported on-site.’ Moreover, TFR asserted that while immediate measures would be taken to tend to the crisis at hand, no cancellations would take place, nor will freight operations be impacted. TFR plans to resume normal operations.

The Blue train is a renowned luxury train which runs between Pretoria and Cape Town.
