Western Cape’s vibrant culinary and cultural scene has been dealt a double blow with the permanent closure of two beloved establishments: Root44 Restaurant in Stellenbosch and One Park, a cherished listening bar, record store, and cultural venue located in the heart of Cape Town.

Both venues have announced their closures, leaving loyal patrons and community members reeling from the news,
Root44 Restaurant made the announcement via their official Instagram and Facebook pages, expressing their heartfelt gratitude to the many guests who have supported them throughout the years.
‘It is with a heavy heart that we announce the permanent closure of Root44 Restaurant. We are incredibly grateful for the love & support over the years,’ they shared with their followers.
The restaurant reflected on the countless meals shared, celebrations hosted, and friendships forged within their walls. However, they reassured diners that while this chapter ends, Root44 Market remains open and ready to welcome visitors.
Meanwhile, One Park has also announced its closure, set to occur at the end of June. ‘After much consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to close One Park,’ the venue posted on Facebook.
They expressed their appreciation for every individual who stepped through their doors, whether to support local artists, indulge in culinary delights, or simply soak in the atmosphere.
The venue conveyed pride in the community it fostered over the years: ‘It has been a privilege to share this with you,’
Although closing its doors, One Park has promised to celebrate its legacy with a series of final events and dance sessions scheduled throughout the month, inviting the community to join in commemorating everything it has represented.
Following both announcements, social media users quickly shared messages of appreciation and disappointment.
Many former patrons recalled family gatherings, weekend outings, live events, and memorable meals that took place at the venues. Others expressed concern about the growing number of beloved independent establishments disappearing from the local landscape.
