Celebrating World Tourism Day

Posted on 27 September 2018

We travel for reasons too many to count. We travel to experience the world, to discover new cuisine, to meet different nationalities and enrich our lives with cultural diversity. We travel for business, pleasure, family get-togethers and everything in between. World Tourism Day is celebrated annually and gives each country a chance to showcase their unique destination to the rest of the world.

South Africa’s diverse culture is definitely something to celebrate. We have a little something for everyone to enjoy, from world-class airports to five star lodges in the Kruger National Park and family-friendly holidays on the beach – you’re spoilt for choice.

The focus of World Tourism Day in 2018 is the vital importance of digital technology in tourism with the official celebration of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) being hosted in Budapest, Hungary today. UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili says harnessing innovation and digital advances provides tourism with opportunities to improve inclusiveness, local community empowerment and efficient resource management, amongst other objectives within the wider sustainable development agenda.
