Claim your free birthday cableway ride after lockdown

Posted on 24 April 2020

If you were planning on being in Cape Town for your birthday and looking forward to taking a free trip to the top of Table Mountain when lockdown got in the way, have no fear.

The popular Table Mountain Aerial Cableway suspended operations on 18 March well before the national lockdown. Would-be visitors can rest assured, however, that if they celebrated their birthdays during the lockdown period, they will still be able to claim their free ride. The Cableway Birthday Special tickets will be available for collection from the ticket office and visitor information centre once re-opened.

Similarly, Cable Card holders who have free year-round access will also be able to claim their free rides. These will be credited to the cards for use after lockdown.

The cableway has also been running a competition where past visitors can share their best travel memories of the cable car ride and mountain-top explorations to win two rides and a voucher for the Table Mountain Café.

Find out more at Table Mountain Aerial Cableway.

Until then, here are some gorgeous pics to remind you of those lofty, panoramic views:

A visit to the top of Table Mountain is practically a rite of passage for Capetonians and for anyone who visits our Atlantic Ocean-kissed shores. You can scarcely call yourself a local or boast that you’ve visited South Africa’s ‘Mother City’ if you haven’t crested the city’s iconic, internationally recognised mountain. Looming at 1,086 meters above the cityscape and the undulating, blue ocean beyond, Table Mountain cuts a dramatic figure against the sky, both when viewed from the city bowl or from as far afield as the Cape winelands and West Coast. At over 500 million years old, Table Mountain is an ancient megalith with a fascinating geology and unique mix of fauna and flora, many species of which are totally endemic to its flanks and summit. Cresting our mountain, our majestic mascot, and Mother City icon is an unforgettable experience that will leave an enchanting tinge upon any visit to the Cape. We cannot wait to visit the Cableway again! tablemountainca #tablemountaincableway #tablemountain #mountain #naturalwonder #travel #tourism #tourist #views #mothercity #capetown #wanderlust
