Cruise ships return from the Gulf as MSC Euribia heads back to Northern Europe
After weeks of uncertainty in the Gulf, cruise operations are finally moving again. Several ships that were previously held up in the region have now safely passed through the Strait of Hormuz following a brief reopening, marking a cautious return to normal routing.
Among them is MSC Euribia, which has now departed Dubai and is making its way toward Northern Europe after successfully navigating the narrow and strategically sensitive waterway.
Stranded cruise ships finally get moving again
The recent disruption affected multiple cruise vessels in the Gulf, including Celestyal Journey and Celestyal Discovery, which had been waiting in regional ports after transit through Hormuz was temporarily restricted.
When a short operational window opened, ships began moving out one by one, clearing the strait and resuming repositioning voyages.
For cruise operators, the moment offered relief after weeks of schedule uncertainty and delayed deployments.
MSC Euribia heads north ahead of schedule
According to MSC Cruises, MSC Euribia is now expected to restart its Northern Europe programme earlier than initially planned.
The ship’s upcoming cruises from Kiel on May 16 and Copenhagen on May 17 will go ahead as scheduled, with all following departures also confirmed to operate normally.
The update signals a return to stability for one of MSC’s key seasonal vessels after its unexpected Gulf detour.
A disrupted season slowly resets
The Gulf disruption temporarily left several cruise ships out of position, forcing itinerary changes and delays across multiple regions.
Now, with vessels clearing the Strait of Hormuz and heading back to Europe, cruise lines are working to restore schedules and minimise knock-on effects for passengers.
While the situation remains sensitive, the reopening has allowed operators to stabilise planning for the upcoming summer cruise season.
What this means for cruise passengers
For travellers, the key takeaway is simple: schedules are back on track, at least for now.
MSC Euribia’s confirmed return to Northern Europe cruising offers reassurance that major itinerary disruptions are being resolved and that future sailings remain on course.
However, the earlier Gulf delays serve as a reminder of how quickly global cruise routes can be affected by geopolitical shifts in key maritime corridors.
