De Hoop Nature Reserve Unveils Enchanting Vlei to Whales Trail

De Hoop Nature and Marine Reserve have unveiled the De Hoop Trail: Vlei to Whales is set to launch, promising an unforgettable walking experience in the “Jewel of the Cape”.

Managed by Cape Nature, the trail offers a captivating experience unrivalled by other natural wonders.

From deserted beaches and a Ramsar-listed vlei to coastal fynbos and diverse wildlife, including endangered Cape Vultures, it is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts.

This four-day, three-night guided adventure covers approximately 38 kilometres, allowing participants to explore the reserve’s natural and cultural history. With a qualified nature/marine guide, guests will encounter marine life, diverse bird species, rare plants, and captivating animals.

Accommodations for the Vlei to Whales Trail are provided at De Mond Villa, De Hoop Collection’s latest addition. This newly restored villa, situated on the edge of the Ramsar-listed vlei, offers five en-suite bedrooms, exquisite interior decor, Wi-Fi access, and a private outdoor area with a barbecue and swimming pool.

Completely off the grid with solar and gas facilities, guests can marvel at the vlei’s birdlife and potentially spot wild bush pigs, otters, rock dassies, Eland herds, and even leopard tracks.

Rate: R12 900*  (*valid for 2023)

  • A fully catered, guided, three-night/four-day experience
  • De Hoop Nature Reserve is approximately a three-hour drive from Cape Town or George
  • A minimum of four guests is required (who should be reasonably fit to enjoy the experience) 
  • not suitable for children under 12 years of age

Includes:

  • Three nights’ accommodation at De Mond Villa or Melkkamer Homestead
  • All meals and snacks – breakfasts, brunches, lunches, picnics, snacks and dinners
  • Local house wines, spirits and beers and soft drinks
  • Road transfers to and from de Mond Villa and within De Hoop

Excluded are transfers to and from De Hoop Nature Reserve, CapeNature Gate entrance & Conservation Fee (R40 per person) paid on arrival at the gate, fully comprehensive travel insurance, gratuities to the lodge staff and guides, premium drinks not on the “house” list.
