According to travelnews.africa, Swiss leisure airline Edelweiss is increasing its flight frequency between Zurich and Windhoek, strengthening access to one of Southern Africa’s most sought-after destinations.

The route, which launches on 1 June 2026, will initially operate twice weekly. From 15 July, a third weekly flight will be added, giving travellers an additional midweek option.

This expansion comes at a strategic time. Namibia’s peak travel season runs from July to October, when dry conditions create ideal wildlife viewing opportunities across the country’s national parks and desert landscapes.

The flights will operate non-stop between Zurich and Windhoek’s main international gateway, using Airbus A350 aircraft designed for long-haul comfort.

A growing gateway to Southern Africa

Windhoek is widely regarded as the starting point for exploring Namibia. From here, travellers fan out to iconic destinations such as Etosha National Park, the towering dunes of Sossusvlei and the Atlantic coastline around Swakopmund.

By increasing frequency, Edelweiss is not only improving convenience for travellers but also contributing to Namibia’s broader tourism growth. The added capacity is expected to enhance seat availability during high season and support rising international demand.

The move also aligns with a wider trend. Namibia is rapidly expanding its global connectivity, with the number of international routes set to grow significantly by mid-2026.

More flexibility for safari and self-drive travel

For travellers planning extended itineraries or self-drive adventures, the additional weekly service offers greater flexibility when mapping out routes and travel dates. Direct flights reduce reliance on stopovers through regional hubs, cutting travel time and simplifying logistics.

With Europe remaining a key source market for Namibia’s tourism sector, the enhanced schedule positions the destination to capture increased demand during peak safari season.
