Emirates cancels flights to Durban with immediate effect

Posted on 3 October 2020

Emirates has cancelled its flights to and from Durban with immediate effect. According to ENCA, the cancellations are due to Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) regulations that treat passengers and airline crew the same.

Flights to and from Johannesburg and Cape Town are expected to follow suit.

On September 24, Emirates announced it would be resuming flight operations to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mauritius as soon as borders reopened.

On October 1, leisure and business international travel has been unbanned under Alert Level 1. An Emirates plane landed at Cape Town International Airport and was greeted with a water salute.
