Cape Town’s skies are getting busier again
Travel between South Africa and the Middle East is set for a noticeable boost as Emirates confirms it will be adding extra frequency on its popular Cape Town route.

According to Travel News, from 20 April, the airline will introduce three additional weekly flights between Cape Town and Dubai, pushing its schedule from seven to 10 weekly services.
For many travellers, it’s a sign that long-haul demand is steadily returning and Cape Town is firmly back on the global aviation map.
New flights return Cape Town closer to pre-disruption capacity
The expanded schedule brings Emirates’ operations in Cape Town closer to what passengers experienced before global travel disruptions reshaped international aviation.
According to the airline, the additional flights are aimed at supporting rising demand and improving seat availability on one of its most important African routes.
It’s not just about more planes in the sky — it’s about flexibility. More departures mean better options for business travellers, tourists, and South Africans connecting through Dubai to Europe, Asia, and beyond.
Flight times designed for smooth global connections
The new services, operating under flight numbers EK772 and EK773, will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Here’s how the schedule looks:
- EK772 departs Dubai at 03:45 and arrives in Cape Town at 11:30
- EK773 departs Cape Town at 13:15 and lands in Dubai at 00:35 the following day
The timing is no accident. These slots are structured to maximise seamless onward connections through Dubai’s massive global hub network — a key reason travellers consistently choose the route.
Why this matters for South African travellers
For many South Africans, especially those in and around the Western Cape, this route is more than just a flight — it’s a gateway.
The Cape Town–Dubai connection is a lifeline for:
- Business professionals travelling between Africa and Asia
- Tourists heading to the UAE or connecting further abroad
- Families visiting relatives across continents
- And the growing number of students and expats moving through Dubai’s global transit network
With increased frequency, passengers can expect less pressure on peak travel dates and potentially more competitive fare availability over time.
A quiet but strong signal of travel recovery
While the announcement is straightforward, the timing says a lot.
Cape Town’s international tourism sector has been steadily rebuilding momentum, and increased airline capacity is often one of the clearest indicators of confidence from global carriers.
In aviation terms, adding frequencies usually signals one thing: demand is not just returning — it’s becoming consistent again.
For Cape Town, a city heavily reliant on seasonal tourism and international arrivals, that consistency matters.
What travellers are saying
Even before the new flights take off, the reaction among frequent flyers has been largely positive. Many travellers regularly complain about limited seat availability on peak routes between South Africa and Dubai, especially during holiday seasons.
On travel forums and social media discussions, the general sentiment is simple: more flights mean less stress.
There’s also growing appreciation for the reliability of Emirates’ schedule, especially for long-haul journeys where missed connections can turn into expensive delays.
Cape Town’s global connectivity is strengthening
This expansion adds to a broader trend — Cape Town is becoming increasingly integrated into global aviation networks, not just seasonal tourism routes.
With carriers steadily increasing capacity, the city is reinforcing its position as one of Africa’s most connected long-haul destinations.
And while this update is specific to Emirates, it reflects a wider confidence in Cape Town’s travel demand across international markets.
More flights may sound like a routine airline update, but for travellers, it often means something much bigger: easier journeys, better prices, and fewer compromises when planning long-distance trips.
From April 20, Cape Town’s skies get a little busier and for many passengers, a lot more convenient.
