Go behind the scenes with Wildlife ACT

Posted on 11 May 2021

We have endured a full year and counting on the effects that COVID-19 has had on the conservation tourism industry. As international travel restrictions continue to remain so uncertain, we are really encouraging fellow South Africans to join our projects, and have made the decision to extend our special South African rate until the end of July 2021, to help keep our projects open and field staff operational for the next few months.

International volunteers have been the cornerstone of our funding stream since the very beginning. We depend entirely upon this funding in order to sustainably perform the essential daily Priority Species Monitoring, for the game reserves on which we are contracted to work on.

The impact of COVID-19 has meant that we have had to massively downscale our operations and put immense effort into actively fundraising – in order to be able to continue our daily Monitoring work without receiving the essential Project running costs from our paying participants – during the international travel ban periods over the past year.

We are therefore actively encouraging South African participants who are able to do so, to join us during. We are offering a dramatically discounted participation fee for South African citizens, to encourage local participation and generate some of the vital funding towards our Project running costs, and to keep our tracking vehicles in the field, ensuring the safety of these Priority species.

For South African citizens joining us between now and the end of July, we are currently offering a limited offer discounted participation fee, which is a donation of R5,700 per person to join for 1 week; or a donation of R11,400 per person to join for 2 weeks.

This will cover your accommodation at our Research Camps within the reserve and your 3 meals a day, as well as Monitoring sessions tracking and observing the animals.
