Highway upgrades under way across South Africa

Posted on 24 February 2022 By Taylah Strauss

Highway upgrades are included in several large-scale infrastructure improvements across the country. Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Patricia de Lille has given an update on these plans.

They form part of the Infrastructure Investment Plan that is central to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan, which is aimed at rebuilding and stimulating the economy and job creation.

Most of the construction already under way is in KwaZulu-Natal, with the exception of the N1 highway development of Musina Ring Road in Limpopo, according to BusinessTech.

In addition, there will be upgrades to the N3 highway from Cato Ridge to Dardanelles, from Dardanelles to Lynnfield Park, and further development of the Ashburton Interchange to Murray Road.

Further upgrades are in the procurement phase, all in KwaZulu-Natal and concerning the N3 and the N2.
