Medical and security specialist International SOS has released a list of the most dangerous destinations to visit in 2023, with Afghanistan ranking 1st.

The recent risk map published by the organisation named Syria as the second most dangerous destination to visit, followed by Ukraine, Mali and Iraq.

Ukraine and Mali are new inductees, with the rest of the mentioned countries remaining on the list featured in the 2021 and 2022 forecasts. It’s also worth noting that most of the regions mentioned are beleaguered by historical war conflicts.

Ukraine saw the biggest shift in the last 12 months due to the Russian invasion making the country’s security very volatile.

Other countries that were in the extreme category include, the Central African Republic, Yemen, Somalia and South Sudan, with certain areas in Nigeria, DRC, Pakistan, Mozambique and Israel also being touted as extremely dangerous.

The Sahel region in North Africa saw an increase in militancy, and Colombia experienced a rise in criminality with experts attributing it to the socio-economic impacts of the pandemic.

In other news, Norway has been named the safest destination followed by Finland, Switzerland, Denmark and Iceland.
