Remember Jeb Corliss, the wingsuit pilot who got a mighty fright when Table Mountain bit him in mid air, breaking both his legs during a jump? He recently pulled off the greatest thing he has ever done (in his own words) by flying through a tiny gap in Langshan Mountain in China’s Zhejiang Province. The jump, aptly dubbed, ‘Flying Dagger’ saw Jeb jump out of a helicopter into the 298-metre deep valley and through a gap that is only 3,5 metres wide at its narrowest point.
Corliss spoke to a reporter after the jump.
‘This is the greatest thing I’ve ever done up to this point. I am just so, so happy that we were able to do it. I was really worried that it wasn’t going to happen. I was sure it wasn’t going to happen. I’ve no idea. I just didn’t want to disappoint everyone. The Chinese have been so nice to me. The Chinese government has been so wonderful. I just didn’t want to disappoint everyone. I am really glad I was able to do it, because it was so hard. This was so hard. This was really, really, this was the hardest thing I’ve ever done.’
Clearly Jebb Corliss was more focussed on not disappointing everyone than his own mortality which, it would seem, is what takes to be a madman. Nice one.
