Since opening on 22 June 2025, the centre has quickly become one of South Africa’s most exciting new heritage attractions, celebrated for blending natural beauty, scientific discovery, and local history.

Set against the dramatic sandstone cliffs of Golden Gate Highlands National Park, the centre spent its first few months offering free access to visitors, a period that ended on 30 September 2025. From 1 October 2025, the new pricing structure took effect:

  • South African adults pay R110.
  • South African children and pensioners pay R70.
  • For school groups, entry is set at R25 per learner for groups of up to 60.
  • Visitors from SADC countries are charged R150 for adults and R75 for children.
  • International guests are charged R250 for adults and R125 for children.

Special discounted rates remain available for educational tours, reaffirming the centre’s commitment to fostering learning and cultural exchange.

But Kgodumodumo is far more than a conventional museum. Inside, interactive displays trace the geological, archaeological, and cultural evolution of the Maloti-Drakensberg region—home to some of the oldest rock formations and fossil discoveries in southern Africa. Visitors can immerse themselves in the story of ancient landscapes, long-extinct creatures, and the communities that have lived here for millennia.

Beyond the exhibits, the surrounding 340-square-kilometre Golden Gate Highlands National Park offers its own sense of wonder. Rolling grasslands, striking rock formations, and sightings of wildlife like eland, black wildebeest, and even the rare bearded vulture make this destination a full sensory experience.

The opening of the centre is expected to create a positive ripple effect in the local tourism economy, boosting demand for lodges, guided experiences, and community-based tourism in nearby rural towns.

With its newly introduced fees and growing popularity, the Kgodumodumo Dinosaur Centre stands as a shining addition to South Africa’s heritage circuit, a place where science, storytelling, and spectacular scenery meet.
