Many South Africans have a story about that time they travelled to Mauritius. It is a favourite for locals because of its close proximity, azure blue beaches and hospitable hosts. A memory that won’t fade is a stay at the Attitude Hotel Group in Mauritius. I’ve had the pleasure of staying at two of its nine luxurious resorts, and there is no doubt I will go back to experience a few more.
It’s the type of hospitality you rarely forget. A place where every luxury is at your fingertips and the staff go out of their way to make your stay pleasurable from check-in to check-out. At Zilwa Attitude, the water has such clarity, it’s like swimming in an aquarium. Take only a few steps into the warm Indian Ocean and the fish playfully dart around your feet.
The water is so calm and soothing, it’s difficult to believe it is real. The Attitude Hotel Group shares a strong emphasis on family holidays, togetherness and unparalleled island experiences.
Mauritians, like the rest of the world, woke up to the harsh reality that coronavirus will change the way people live, work and travel. Currently, there are 324 people infected with COVID-19 on the island, nine people have died from the virus and 81 have recovered.
Resorts are deserted aside from staff who take care of the grounds and machines. Beaches are bare, but the waters more blue than ever. Palm trees sway to a different frequency with no one to listen. The water lies still and inviting. It is an unreal picture to paint for an island normally bustling with tourists. The local community is reliant on the tourism industry to make a living. The sad reality is that we don’t know when tourism will lift off again. In the meanwhile, we will visit via pictures and experience what we can virtually.
