New platform helps essential staff book safe accommodation

Essential workers in South Africa can book into accommodation closer to work with a new online platform.

Corporate travel and accommodation supplier, Villas and Hotels for Africa, have launched a seamless digital online accommodation booking portal for essential businesses to easily find and book lodging for their essential services staff which is close to their place of work.

They believe this should be done in order to minimise the risk of exposure to infection by essential workers travelling between work and home. It would also limit the possibility of passing on infection to those in their household.

‘The essential services operations absolutely have to stay open during the lockdown, to supply consumers with critical necessities,’
says Carmen Sampayo-Deavall, director and owner of Villas and Hotels for Africa.

‘Booking their staff into pre-sanitised, clean and comfortable rooms which are close to their place of work is an excellent way for them to help maintain business continuity by minimising staff health risks.’

The platform has access to nearly 20,000 rooms across the country available to essential workers.

While some may be concerned that the price of housing staff may be too hefty, Villas and Hotels for Africa have negotiated reduced rates to make it easier on businesses who wish to do so. These negotiated prices see a single room starting at R250 per night in a B&B facility.

Commissions for the project have also been waived by the company so that all the money goes towards the hotels and hospitality industry.
