Heavy rainfall across the province has prompted safety-first decisions from tourism authorities.

As reported by Tourism Update, rising water levels and slippery terrain in the Lowveld have forced closures of key outdoor attractions that draw both local and international visitors.
At the Bourke’s Luck Potholes site, famed for its swirling rock formations and dramatic gorges, authorities have closed access until further notice as they monitor river flows and assess hazards.
Waterfall trail enthusiasts hoping to sight Lone Creek and Bridal Veil Falls will also need to adjust plans for now: SAFCOL confirmed that these popular cascades, along with Forest Falls and the scenic Mac Mac Pools, are closed as a precaution.
Graskop’s panoramic icon, the Graskop Gorge Lift, has temporarily suspended all rides and activities for the period of 12 to 13 January, with a reassessment scheduled to determine if extended closures are necessary.
Officials advise travellers to stay informed through local weather updates and official tourism channels. While closures remain in effect, many other parts of the Panorama Route and wider Mpumalanga tourism network are still welcoming visitors.
