Seychelles ban South African travellers

Posted on 6 January 2021 By Anita Froneman

The Seychelles have removed South Africa from its list of countries permitted to enter the island destination on January 1.

Visitors from permitted countries are now subject to amended and stricter regulations in light of the new COVID-19 variant. However, visitors who are not on the permitted list of countries may apply for permission to enter, provided that they will be arriving by private jets.

‘They will be limited to staying at certified island resorts only.  All pre-travel applications for authorisation of entry in the country by visitors from countries not on the permitted list and are arriving by private jets must be submitted to the Public Health Authority on the following email address: [email protected] for approval,’ the Seychelles Travel Advisory said.

The Seychelles have further divided permitted countries into two categories. Permitted countries considered low and medium risk have been listed as Category 1.

Furthermore, whenever the number of cases in Category 1 countries goes beyond a particular threshold, these countries will move to Category 2. This will allow visitors from these countries to travel to the islands but with a separate set of measures.

See the updated list of permitted countries here.
