South Africans have visa-free access to 101 countries

South Africa has maintained its 56th position on the Henley Passport Index for 2020. The Index ranks passports based on the number of countries their holders can access without needing a visa before departure. South Africa offers visa-on-arrival/ visa- free access to 101 destinations.

‘The Henley Passport Index is the original ranking of all the world’s passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa.

‘The ranking is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which maintains the world’s largest and most accurate database of travel information, and enhanced by ongoing research by the Henley & Partners Research Department,’ according to the Henley website. 

In first place is Japan, with access to 191 destinations. Second is Singapore with 190 and in third place is Germany with 189.
