The Hilton Durban closes temporarily

The Hilton in Durban closed its doors on Monday, January 11. However, the iconic hotel will not stay closed permanently.

‘We are currently not taking bookings past the 11th of January as we will be closing, sir, but we will be reopening,’ a Hilton employee said according to IOL.

The group did not state a reason for the closure, however, The Hilton group has closed a large number of its properties worldwide due to financial strain caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government said it is working with the hotel group to find a way to reopen its doors again soon.

‘As the provincial government, we value the Hilton Hotel as a strategic investment in our province,’ MEC for economic development, tourism and environmental affairs Ravi Pillay said to Times Live.

‘We hope that the rollout of the vaccine this year will speed up the economic recovery and reopening of many businesses such as the Hilton Durban establishment.

‘We are working with all sectors to ensure that we revive the economy so that we can save jobs,’ Pillay added.

A reopening date for the hotel has not been announced.

In July 2020, The Hilton withdrew from managing its hotel in Cape Town CBD. Hilton continues to welcome guests at the DoubleTree by Hilton Cape Town Upper Eastside.
