From 1 September 2025, new entry fees came into effect for Zanzibar’s marine conservation zones, as the island’s government revised its tariff structure to support both ocean protection and community development.

According to the Ministry of Blue Economy and Fisheries, the changes apply to three popular areas: Mnemba Island and the Changuu-Bawe Marine Conservation and Tourism Use Management Area, as well as the Pemba Channel Conservation Area, as previously reported by The Citizen Tanzania.
What travellers can expect
- East African citizens: Sh5 000 (R35) for adults (16+) and Sh2 500 (R18) for children (5–15). Entry remains free for under-fives.
- Non-East African visitors: $10 per adult, $5 per child (5–15).
- Non-East African residents of Tanzania: $5 per adult, $3 per child.
Mnemba Special Area unchanged
One exception is the Mnemba Special Area, where the existing rates remain. Non-East African tourists continue to pay $25 per adult and $10 per child, while East.
