SANCCOB’s rangers are a dedicated group of conservation professionals committed to safeguarding vulnerable seabirds, even under severe weather conditions.
At Stony Point, a key breeding site for endangered seabirds, the team’s pre-emptive patrols resulted in the rescue of 11 chicks from flooded nests. These included African penguins, Cape cormorants, crowned cormorants, white-breasted cormorants and the rarely spotted bank cormorant.
Nine of the rescued chicks were admitted to SANCCOB’s care centre for rehabilitation.
Two were safely reunited with their parents. Each of these outcomes is the result of careful planning, fast action and a high level of care.
‘These rescues reflect the heart of SANCCOB’s work. Quick action, deep care and real conservation impact,’ the organisation shared.
With the support of donors and the public, SANCCOB continues to provide consistent, hands-on care to seabirds in need, no matter the weather.
