SA passport drops another spot on Henley Passport Index

According to the latest Henley Passport Index, South Africa’s passport power has declined once more.

As reported by The South African, the latest rankings of all the world’s passports currently place South Africa on the 50th spot.

Previously, the country had occupied the 49th spot on the list of 199 passports.

The Henley Passport Index is the original and authoritative ranking of global passports, based on the number of destinations that passport holders can access without a visa.

According to Henley & Partners, the Henley Passport Index is the only one of its kind. It is based on exclusive and historical data from the International Air Transport Authority (IATA) spanning 19 years.

The index includes 199 different passports and 227 different travel destinations.

Regardless of the drop in ranking, the Index highlighted that the South African passport still enables travel to 104 destinations without requiring a visa.

As per the latest ranking, Singapore occupies the number one spot with the strongest passport globally. Japan and South Korea follow closely, with their passports enabling visa-free travel to a total of 190 countries.
