Luna Namib Collection: The luxury desert escape designed around the moon

Posted on 30 September 2026 By Zayaan Marthinus

There is something about the desert after dark that makes the world feel quieter. The heat falls away, the dunes become silhouettes and, beneath an enormous Namibian sky, the moon suddenly feels much closer.

It’s this relationship with light, darkness and the natural rhythm of the desert that sits at the heart of the new Luna Namib Collection, a luxury retreat from Gondwana Collection Namibia.

Located 70km south of Sesriem, off the C27, Luna opened in July 2026 in a remote section of the Namib surrounded by ancient camelthorn trees, rocky outcrops and desert landscapes. Rather than simply placing luxury accommodation in the landscape, the property has built its experience around it, with the changing phases of the moon influencing everything from the atmosphere to activities and dining.

A stay shaped by the moon

Luna is intentionally small. Its first phase comprises three private residences: Muse and Solo, designed for two guests, and Opal, a two-bedroom residence suited to families or small groups.

Each has its own living space, outdoor deck, plunge pool and hot tub, with private hosts, guides and chefs allowing stays to be tailored around individual guests. Telescopes and binoculars are also provided, making the desert outside as much a part of the experience as the interiors.

The idea is less about filling every hour and more about experiencing the Namib at its most elemental. Days can include private desert excursions, guided walks, e-biking and quad biking, while evenings bring night walks and guided stargazing. Guests can also arrange excursions to Sossusvlei, hot-air ballooning and helicopter experiences.

After sunset, the desert becomes an entirely different place. Guided night walks offer the chance to look for nocturnal creatures, while professional stargazing introduces guests to constellations and deep-sky features visible from the Namib’s dark skies.

Luxury with plenty of space

The residences are designed around privacy and the landscape, with open-plan living areas, en-suite bathrooms, private bars, outdoor dining spaces and views across the desert.

There is also a wellness element, with treatments available within the residences, allowing guests to retreat from the heat without leaving their private space.

It’s a decidedly exclusive experience. Current 2026 rates start at N$50,000 per night for the two-person Muse and Solo residences, while Opal starts at N$65,000 per night. The rates are fully inclusive, with additional experiences included depending on the length of stay.

That price puts Luna firmly into the ultra-luxury category, but the appeal is not really about how much the property offers. But about how little competes with the landscape.

A reason to look up

There’s something refreshingly simple about Luna’s concept. The dunes, silence, wildlife and extraordinary night skies were already there. Luna simply gives guests a private place from which to experience them.

After a day among the dunes, you might return to your residence for a swim, sit down to dinner as the light fades, or head out beneath the stars. With no mobile network coverage, the property also encourages a genuine digital disconnect, although Wi-Fi remains available when needed.

And perhaps that’s where the real luxury lies. Not in having more to do, but in having enough space to stop, look up and remember just how vast the Namib really is.

All prices are correct at the time of publishing and are subject to change. Please confirm current rates and inclusions directly with the property before booking.
