The Bambanani and Ukuthanda Ukukhanya communities have been designated as protected environments. The South African government’s Department of Environmental Affairs bestowed this prestigious status, which shows their ecological significance.

These two now protected areas have come a long way since their humble roots. In an agreement with WWF, their communities have thrived and achieved much. This includes tackling high-risk community problems like unemployment rates and crop-destroying wildfires.

By selling produce at local markets and learning fundamental skills to battle fires with precision, these two communities are quite happy about their collaboration with WWF. The chairperson of the Bambanani CPA, Mr Amos Mnisi, stated his gratitude for the organisation:

“We are very pleased with the way we have worked together from the beginning, and we hope this collaboration will continue. We have children, and we wish for the next generation to learn about the successful agreement we have achieved. We are genuinely happy.”
