A 60-year-old woman has died and 13 people have been injured after three minibus taxis collided on Nelson Mandela Boulevard in Cape Town on Monday morning, 14 September.

The crash happened on the inbound carriageway before the Browning Road turn-off at about 7.52am, during the busy morning commute into the city. According to Cape Town Traffic Services spokesperson Kevin Jacobs, the woman was declared dead at the scene.
Three other people sustained serious injuries, while 10 people were treated for slight injuries. Nelson Mandela Boulevard is one of the main routes into Cape Town’s city centre from the N2 and carries heavy commuter traffic each morning. Following the collision, the left lane was obstructed while emergency and traffic officials attended to the scene.
Motorists travelling towards the city were urged to approach the area with caution and expect delays. The circumstances surrounding the collision have not yet been confirmed.
The crash comes just hours after another fatal collision on a Western Cape road. On Sunday night, 21 people were killed in a separate crash involving two minibus taxis and a Suzuki on the N1 between Prince Albert and Leeu-Gamka. The two crashes are unrelated, but together they have made for a particularly deadly period on Western Cape roads.
For visitors and locals travelling through Cape Town, Nelson Mandela Boulevard is an important link between the N2 and the city centre, making delays on the route particularly disruptive during peak traffic.
Further details about the cause of Monday morning’s crash and the condition of those injured are expected as authorities continue their investigation.
