Residents in various parts of Cape Town are urged to prepare for scheduled water supply maintenance set to take place over the next two weeks, Cape {town} Etc reports.

The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate plans critical infrastructure work designed to enhance the reliability and efficiency of the water supply system. However, this essential work will result in temporary water supply disruptions in several communities.
Maintenance is crucial for sustained service quality, involving pipe and valve installations, as well as essential repairs and replacements.
The City has advised affected residents to store adequate water in advance, using clean, sealed containers to ensure domestic needs are met during the maintenance period.
The maintenance work is strategically scheduled as follows:
- Gordon’s Bay and Somerset West: The maintenance team will require access from 8am on Monday, 14 September, until 08:00 on Thursday, 17 September for critical valve replacements, during which local water pressure may be reduced.
- Parts of Fish Hoek: Water supply will be disrupted on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, from 8:30am to 7:30pm, while switching over to temporary supply bypasses.
- Factreton: A test shut-off will take place on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, from 10am to 3pm to evaluate control valves.
- Rondebosch East and Lansdowne: A water supply shutdown is expected on Thursday, 17 September 2026, from 9am to 12pm, as preparations for a new bypass on an existing water main are completed.
In addition to these planned disruptions, the Water and Sanitation Directorate will also conduct visual leak detection in areas such as Melkbosstrand, Thornton, and Welgemoed Lower from Monday, 14 September to Friday, 18 September. These efforts will aim to prevent water wastage and conserve resources.
As part of ongoing improvements, zero-pressure tests will be conducted in several areas:
- Tuesday, 15 September: Camps Bay, Clifton, Gardens, Oranjezicht, and Tamboerskloof from 10am to 5pm
- Wednesday, 16 September: Bo-Kaap, Gardens, and Tamboerskloof from 11am to 4pm, along with Martinville (Bizweni) from 9am to 4pm
- Thursday, 17 September: Low-lying areas in Khayelitsha from 9am to 4pm
While the City assures no confirmed water supply interruptions during leak detection activities, residents within the zero-pressure testing zones should be prepared for potential disruptions, as predictions on specific areas affected cannot be guaranteed.
