Park Hyatt Johannesburg has been named Africa’s Leading New Hotel for 2026, putting the 31-room luxury property in Rosebank among the continent’s standout new stays.

The hotel, which opened in 2025, was recognised at the World Travel Awards. It has also attracted attention from the Michelin Guide and Time magazine since opening, adding to Johannesburg’s growing reputation as a destination for luxury city breaks.
BusinessTech reported on the hotel’s latest accolade and its rates, which can reach about R13,000 per night.

Park Hyatt Johannesburg is in Rosebank, one of Johannesburg’s livelier neighbourhoods, known for its restaurants, galleries, shopping and entertainment.
Unlike many large city hotels, the property has just 31 rooms. BusinessTech reports that rates range from approximately R6,000 to R13,000 per person per night, depending on the room and stay.
The hotel occupies a former residential property dating back to the 1930s. Its architecture reflects the influence of Sir Herbert Baker, while the property has been redesigned around a central courtyard.
A heated swimming pool, mature jacaranda tree and sculptures form part of the courtyard setting.
The smaller scale gives the property a more intimate feel, with the hotel designed to feel closer to a private residence than a conventional large-scale city hotel.
An art-filled stay
Art is woven into the hotel rather than confined to a single gallery.
Curated artworks and sculptures appear throughout the property, with different areas featuring their own themes. Local influences are also reflected in the textiles, illustrations and artworks used across the interiors.
The 31 rooms feature king-sized beds, high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows. Some rooms also have private patios.
The property received a One Key distinction from the Michelin Guide in 2025. It was also included in Time magazine’s list of the world’s greatest places for 2026 and received a Traveller Review Award from Booking.com, according to BusinessTech.
Dining at Room 32
The hotel’s main restaurant, Room 32, is another major draw.
Its design takes inspiration from Johannesburg’s heritage, with local artwork incorporated into the dining space. The menu focuses on open-fire cooking, while the wine list features a selection of South African wines.
The restaurant also offers several special dining experiences.
High tea ranges from R750 to R1,395 per person, while a business lunch costs R630. A four-course brunch is priced at R1,595, according to BusinessTech.
Guests can also make use of the hotel’s spa, swimming pool, valet parking and meeting and event facilities.
A new addition to Johannesburg’s luxury scene
Park Hyatt Johannesburg is Hyatt’s latest property in South Africa, joining its existing presence in Cape Town and Sandton.
Its Rosebank setting makes it well placed for exploring Johannesburg, from restaurants and shopping to the city’s galleries and cultural attractions.
The World Travel Awards title adds another international accolade to the hotel’s growing collection and highlights the increasing range of luxury accommodation available in Johannesburg.
For travellers looking for a high-end city stay with a more intimate atmosphere, Park Hyatt Johannesburg offers something different from the traditional large hotel experience.
