Outdoor enthusiasts are being urged to remain vigilant after another violent incident was reported on the lower slopes of Table Mountain, raising fresh safety concerns for hikers, runners and mountain bikers using the popular trails.

According to Take Back Our Mountains on Facebook, a man was reportedly mugged and stabbed near the Platteklip Wash Houses in the Deer Park area, one of the well-used access points to the mountain.
The latest attack is particularly worrying as it marks the second reported stabbing in the same area in less than a week, prompting renewed calls for trail users to take extra precautions.

While Table Mountain remains one of Cape Town’s most iconic outdoor destinations, incidents such as these serve as a reminder that visitors should always prioritise their safety, especially when using quieter sections of the mountain.
Those planning to explore the area are advised to stay alert, avoid hiking, running or cycling alone where possible, and remain aware of their surroundings throughout their outing. Travelling in groups is generally considered safer, particularly during quieter times of the day.
With two serious attacks reported in the same location within days of each other, hikers and other trail users are urged to exercise extra caution before heading onto the lower slopes of Table Mountain.
