Visit the Hector Pieterson Memorial

Journey back to Soweto’s history by visiting the Hector Pieterson Memorial. Upon visiting, you will be exposed to all you need to know about the fateful day of June 16, 1976.

The memorial will give you a glimpse of the youth uprising where Hector Pieterson was victim to one of the shots fired to suppress the riot.

Food, fun and culture on Vilakazi Street

Visit the world famous Vilakazi street where two Nobel Prize winners, Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu, resided.

Although the street carries a lot of loss, it is also rich in history and displays Soweto in its purest essence through culture, food and historical attractions.

The Orlando Towers are a must-visit landmark in Soweto. The towers were used as coal burning plants to produce electricity during the apartheid era.

Today, they serve as an entertainment centre. Apart from their beautiful and captivating artwork, they are a paradise for adrenaline junkies as they offer activities such as ziplining, rock climbing and even bungee jumping.

Pay homage to a hero at Nelson Mandela Museum

Once the residence of former struggle icon, Madiba, the Nelson Mandela Museum is a world-class attraction which possesses much simplicity and raw authenticity.

It embodies the historical significance and the legacy of a great leader and struggle icon. Inside the museum, you can find family photographs, memorabilia and paintings. All of these will give more insight into the life of Nelson Mandela and his family.
