KZN’s Shongweni Farmers Market is an Easter must-visit

In KwaZulu-Natal’s Shongweni Valley and overlooking the majestic Kirk Falls, sits the Shongweni Farmers and Craft Market.

The market happens every Saturday morning from 6:30 am to 12:30 pm and is found just a short drive through the sugar cane fields. This Easter Sunday, on 17 April, the market will be open from 8 am to 1 pm where there will be a special Easter egg hunt for the children starting at 9 am.

You can expect to find local traders who sell everything from fresh produce and deli goods, to fabulous art and crafts. The buzz of the market is complemented by local musicians who bring their talent to the two stages every week, with the likes of Qadasi and Indeep performing.

The whole family is welcome, including pets. There are lots of activities to keep the kids entertained, like the Shongweni Express Train rides, pony rides, merry-go-rounds and jungle gyms. For those who are more adventurous, there is even a short nature trail to explore.

Adults can also grab a cold drink from the Standing Room in the main hall where the market’s very own craft beer and gin are served.

Do not let bad weather put you off from visiting, as the market is fully covered and prepared for rain or sunshine. There is also access in and out of the venue for wheelchairs.

The Shongweni Farmers and Craft Market has been nominated in the South African Tourism Awards and votes are still open.
