Rosebank’s RED hot hotel ticks all the fun boxes

Radisson RED opened in Rosebank, Johannesburg in August 2021 and is the first of the group’s RED brand in Gauteng, so it’s safe to say it’s still new on the scene.

But it’s already the playground of the locals, one of the reasons being the vibey rooftop. When I arrived there late on a Saturday afternoon, there was a 30th birthday shindig in one corner, a bachelorette in the other and what seemed to be a very romantic date at the bar.

Bursts of laughter greet you when stepping onto the rooftop, a great soundtrack to the marvellous city views. I dipped my toes in the smart-looking pool and felt myself starting to sway to the beats in the background. This is what Saturdays should feel like.

The corridors and rooms on every floor are covered in funky artwork. The foyer welcomes guests with warm lighting and high ceilings, modern furniture and bright, trendy colours oozing atmosphere. Judging by the number of patrons in the downstairs restaurant at any time of the day, you can tell the food will be good, and so it was.

The bars, both downstairs and upstairs are stocked with an array of fancy drinks, making for a pleasing aesthetic of glass bottles boasting local and foreign liquor brands. Sitting on one of the bar stools ordering a Cosmopolitan (an apt cocktail for this hotel) I felt complete as if I was in a spy movie, waiting for a stranger to say a codeword that would activate me for a very exciting mission.

Instead, I opted for the heavenly shower and plush bed in my suite, and promptly dozed off to the city’s twinkling lights.
