The LENOX, located in Cape Town’s Gardens, is set to be transformed into an artist residency and boutique hotel.
Known by many as one of the Mother City’s historic landmarks, The LENOX is set to enter a new era as it transforms into an artist residency and boutique hotel.
The residency will be one of France’s first artist residencies established for artists and the public in Cape Town.
The boutique hotel, under the management of Newmark Hotels & Reserves, won’t only be a haven for guests to stay, but will also act as an elevated space for guests to interact with transcontinental artists who are in their residencies.
The history of The LENOX dates back to 1897 when it was originally designed as a hotel.
Over a century later, the building is set to be “meticulously restored by MEMORIST into an upscale luxury, 47-room boutique property,” reads the press release, issued by Newmark Hotels & Reserves.
When is this fine establishment set to open? In 2026, the arts-focused hotel – complete with a restaurant, conference facilities, and a peaceful garden is set to open its doors to the public.
Resident artists will be designated to an entire floor of the hotel, which will be customised into a permanent art residence. The residency will draw talent from South Africa, the African continent and France to provide creative haven for up to nine artists annually.
The LENOX’ location adds to its atmosphere. Nestled in the heart of the cultural centre of Cape Town, the historic landmark is only a short walk from the Iziko South African National Gallery and other leading galleries and studios.
