Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality has announced the temporary closure of Kaiser’s Beach, Eastern Beach, and Nahoon Beach due to safety concerns linked to dead whale carcasses.

Kaiser’s Beach remains closed as a whale that washed ashore last month continues to decompose. Authorities warn residents not to approach the carcass. Eastern Beach is also shut after a whale was discovered offshore yesterday. Officials say floating meat could draw sharks closer to swimmers.
Nahoon Beach has been closed following a confirmed shark sighting, with officials monitoring the situation as marine animals feed on whale remains in the area.
The municipality reminds beachgoers that circling birds, splashing water, or the presence of seals and dolphins can signal sharks nearby. Residents are urged to stay out of the water until further notice.
