Posted by Imogen Searra on 15 March 2019

Splashy Fen, kicks off its 30th-anniversary event in April, over the Easter weekend. With over 100 acts across 5 stages, here are our top 10 reasons to attend.

1. The festival takes place over 4 days

Splashy Fen takes place over the long Easter weekend, from 18-22 April 2019. That’s four days of incredible music. From local Underberg legends to famous South African artists and big international headliners, the weekend promises to deliver the finest selection of musical genius.

2. The famous Treehouse Stage

Since its establishment in 2017, the Treehouse Stage has become an institution of Splashy Fen. The stage has a special setting, under the trees in the Splashy Fen forest. The laid-back vibe offers a perfect platform for budding musicians to showcase their talent. Musical performances begin at 3:15pm on Thursday 18 April and a visit to this stage is well worth it.

3. The Corona River Stage

From the Friday morning, this riverbank stage will begin to fill with busy bodies looking to dance the day away. Be sure to visit this stage to find out who will be playing the Surprise Set. This tradition is a highlight of the entire event.

4. The Acoustic Stage

The Acoustic Stage is a firm Splashy Fen favourite. Spend the afternoon here listening to the melodic sounds of acoustic solos and banjo-playing harmonies. What’s more, the food vendors are right here too.

5. The food options

Over 30 food vendors will be available in the Splashy Fen Food Court Area. So be sure to sample some of the delicious foods on offer. Gather your friends and enjoy your meals while listening to some of the incredible music coming from the Acoustic Stage.

6. Splashy Fen is family-friendly

If you are looking for a family getaway over the weekend with something for everyone, Splashy Fen is the answer. Families, both big and small descend every year to spend quality time together in a fun and unique way.

7. The interactive workshops

At the Treehouse Stage there will be a series of workshops for people to take part in. Spend some time learning the art of belly dancing, get the opportunity to explore your performance skills or partake in the didgeridoo and flow workshops. Be sure to check out the art-go-round interactive billboard too.

8. The Main Stage

Kicking off on Friday 19 April, the main stage is going to have festival goers dancing all weekend long. Ben Dey & The Concrete Lions, Jeremy Loops, Wonderboom, Kim Churchill, YOUNGR, Mi Casa and Splashy Fen’s main headliner act, Wheatus are among some of the talent that will enliven this stage.

9.The Red Square Electric Boma

The quirky decor of the boma makes this the perfect place for night owls to perch in. Dance the night away to the sounds of Huckleberry, Craig Rude, Kyle Deutsch, Crazy White Boy and many more.

10. The vendors

Located in same area as the Treehouse Stage, the vendors will be trading a wide range of esoteric products and services. Be sure to support  small local businesses and purchase a keep sake that will remind you of the memories you made at the 30th Splashy Fen event.
