According to Times Entertainment, guests and staff at a lodge near Victoria Falls were left stunned when an unexpected visitor, a large Nile crocodile, wandered into the hotel and made its way into the kitchen.

The reptile, estimated to be around 3.5 to 4 metres long, is believed to have strayed from the nearby Zambezi River, a waterway known for its abundant wildlife. In the early hours of the morning, the crocodile moved through the property, navigating reception and dining areas before attempting to climb onto a kitchen counter.

Footage of the incident, now widely shared online, shows the animal calmly exploring the lodge. At one point, it rests on furniture and lingers near food preparation areas. While the scene may sound alarming, staff quickly activated safety protocols and kept guests at a safe distance.

Wildlife authorities were called in soon after. Teams from the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority responded swiftly, safely capturing the crocodile and relocating it back to its natural habitat along the river. No injuries or damage were reported.

Encounters like this, while rare, are not entirely unexpected in the region. Lodges around Victoria Falls often sit within unfenced wilderness areas where animals move freely between riverbanks and human spaces. Crocodiles in particular are known to travel over land for reasons ranging from territorial behaviour to environmental changes.

The incident serves as a vivid reminder of what makes this destination so compelling. Here, the boundary between luxury travel and raw nature is thin. Sometimes, it disappears altogether.
