Mouritz Kruger, a part-time professional photographer from Port Elizabeth, encountered an amazing elephant sighting at Addo Elephant National Park on December 22, 2020.

Kruger, his fiancé and members of her family arrived at the Addo gates before 6am ready to seize the day before the sweltering heat set in.

‘We arrived at the gates before 6am ready to find some wildlife for the day,’ Kruger told Getaway Magazine. After one and a half hours the group came across a large herd of elephants.

In total, there were over 20 elephants with a few calves in tow. The weather grew warmer and the ellies were seeking refuge in a shallow watering hole.

‘It was a very hot day so they really enjoyed the little water that was available to them at this water hole,’ continued Kruger.

‘A few minutes later some zebras tried to join them for some water but the elephants weren’t really in the mood to share the water,’ he said.

Kruger explained that the group stayed at the watering hole for a few hours, waiting to see if the elephants would share the water with the zebras but were fresh out of luck.
