Travelling to Zambia from South Africa is about to get a little easier, with FlySafair launching a new direct route between Johannesburg and Lusaka.

The airline now operates five weekly flights between OR Tambo International Airport and Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, flying on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Flights between Johannesburg and Lusaka
Flights depart OR Tambo at 07:50 and arrive in Lusaka at 09:50. The return service leaves Lusaka at 10:50 and lands in Johannesburg at 12:50.
FlySafair says the route was introduced following sustained demand between the two cities.
“Zambia has long been on our radar, and Lusaka is a route our customers have been asking about,” said Kirby Gordon, Chief Marketing Officer at FlySafair.
The new connection also gives leisure travellers an easier starting point for exploring Zambia beyond its capital. Lusaka provides access to destinations including Livingstone and Victoria Falls, as well as the Lower Zambezi and South Luangwa National Parks.
What will flights cost?
Fares from Johannesburg to Lusaka start at R2,800, while flights in the opposite direction start at R3,000. These fares exclude fuel surcharges and are subject to availability.
Flights are now available to book through FlySafair, with services operating five days a week.
What does this mean for travellers?
For South African travellers, the new route means there is now another direct option for getting to Zambia without connecting through another airport. The five weekly flights also give travellers more flexibility when planning a trip to Lusaka or continuing onwards to other parts of the country.
For those planning a Zambian getaway, it could make travelling between South Africa and Zambia simpler, particularly for shorter breaks, business trips or onward journeys.
