David Nel, spokesperson for Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR), reported that a collective effort was swiftly organized, enlisting the expertise of various agencies including City of Cape Town Law Enforcement and SANParks – Table Mountain National Park rangers.
Before long, SANParks rangers, in collaboration with Law Enforcement and Western Cape Government Health and Wellness EMS paramedics, reached the injured athlete.
They performed a thorough assessment of his condition, ensuring he was stable before assisting him down the rugged trail.
‘As soon as the additional WSAR team members arrived, the patient was secured in a rescue stretcher and carried the rest of the way back to Tafelberg Road for further treatment,’ Nel explained.
The rescue operation concluded shortly after 11h30, with the young runner transported for medical assistance. In a show of compassion, WSAR extended its best wishes to the injured athlete, hoping for a full and swift recovery.
‘We commend the outstanding teamwork of all involved in the rescue,’ said Nel.
